LOVE AT THE END OF THE WORLD
This film explores how war damages personal relationships. How difficult is it for someone who has experienced war to communicate with someone who has not? Damaged by war, Paul can't feel the love he once had for his fiancé Anna who has never experienced violence. I became interested in what might enable her to understand Paul and reconnect with him. This led to the creation of a third character Karl who wants love but can’t articulate this. Karl takes advantage of Anna but instinctively saves Paul from drowning. I am intrigued by the idea that through suffering, violence or loss, we grow and develop, become kind and connect with other people. In Love At The End Of The World, it is a fine line between growth and degeneration.

How can someone who has experienced war communicate with someone who has not?
Returning home from peace-keeping duties, Paul can't reconnect with fiancé Anna who has no experience of violence. Anna brings Paul to the beach to lift his spirits. There she meets loner Karl, who takes advantage of Anna but instinctively saves Paul. In making this film, I was questioning how violence or loss enables growth or connection with others. In LOVE AT THE END OF THE WORLD, it’s a fine line between growth and degeneration.
